NEW ORLEANS CHURCH STILL IN NEED
Devastation beyond measure still exists in New Orleans.
Christians need help not only in restoring their homes and life to normalcy, but also as they attempt to share of the love of Jesus in tangible ways with their neighborhoods.
Gary Goodge, an EBM administrator, is working with interested people who want to go down and help the church family of First Baptist Church in New Orleans, a historic urban church in the heart of the city. The church is functioning at this time, but many of their folks are still without their homes to live in. Many are traveling in and out of the city for jobs and for temporary houses. The church and the congregation need help.
EBM exists to help churches!
EBM is a facilitator/conduit for bringing work teams to FBC to meet immense needs in that community. Phase 1 of The Big UnEasy involves gutting houses and clearing out debris. Phase 2 involves cleaning, hanging drywall, electrical, painting. In both phases there will be opportunities to comfort and encourage both believers and unbelievers with the love of Christ.
EBM is scheduling PHASE 2 teams right now for late spring and summer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Question: How big a team can we take?
Answer: This varies, but initially 5-10 men would be good. These teams can vary in the length of time they are in New Orleans. We are looking for both Full week teams (Monday-Saturday)
Weekend work teams (Friday-Sunday). We can also work at customizing your team.
Question: Can women be part of teams?
Answer: Yes. The days will be long and hard. The work is heavy and very dirty.
Question: What kind of work will teams be doing?
Answer: There may still be some demolition and clearing of debris, but most would be restoration work such as drywalling, re-wiring, plumbing, painting, laying new flooring, etc.
Question: Will housing and food be provided?
Answer: Yes, arrangements can be made for this. Contact EBM for information.
Question: What sort of items would be helpful to bring?
Answer:
- Tools (specialized for projects)
- Work clothes and boots
- Pressure washers
- Paint brushes
- Large construction site Thermos for water and Styrofoam cups
Question: What personal items do I need to bring?
Answer: Work clothes, work gloves, heavy work boots, breathing masks, hygiene supplies, sleeping bag, pillow, and Bible.
Question: Will there be ministry opportunities besides the physical work?
Answer: Yes. In addition to the physical labor, this is an ideal time to minister by listening to those who have lost everything and are "grieving" this loss. Why not include in your team someone to who you are ministering?
Question: Is there any health risk?
Answer: Yes. We suggest that you consider getting a tetanus shot (or booster) before traveling to New Orleans. We strongly caution people that have respiratory problems since the area is heavily infested with mold and dust (dried sewage). We strongly caution those under the age of 18.
