A MOSCOW "METRO" MOMENT

moscow01.jpgIn this mega world city of 12 to 14 million people,  over  4,000 “ wagons” carry nearly 9 million passengers every day over the 151 miles of track.   There are 168 stations strategically placed around the city, and super long escalators carry passengers deep into the earth to these stations.   Many stations are  so deep that there is one mile of escalator for each mile of subway route.  They were situated at these depths so that they could serve as bomb shelters during World War 2.   The metro stations are fabulous structures that in themselves are beautiful works of art.  Visitors marvel at the extravagance that marks these stations.  The artwork, sculpture, stain glass windows, and mosaics set this subway system apart from any in the world.  Stalin called these stations “the people’s palaces.”  During World War 2, these beautiful stations were used as bomb shelters.

Standing on the street watching the hustle and bustle of the crowded city’s  people,  I am struck with the reality that 10 stories below me there is another parallel city moving.  What an incredible thought!  The Moscow “metro” illustrated to me a wonderful truth--we must not be deceived into thinking that what we see is all there is.   In the spiritual realm, much of what is going on is “out of sight.”   The Holy Spirit is involved in an unceasing  amount of activity.    Continually at strategic points God’s  work becomes evident.   Although this activity might not be seen, I  know it is happening and it energizes the ministry that God has called me to do for Him, knowing that He is present, and around me, there is a parallel plan unfolding.

moscow2.jpgHere in Russia, I know that the unseen (maybe we could say secret) work of the Holy Spirit is moving forward in the lives of the believers who serve in the former Soviet Union.  Students that have gone through the 4+  year Tri-M training and completed the curriculum are now teaching the new groups of nearly 20 students.   They are using materials given to them in the Tri-M curriculum to begin their teaching  and are incorporating their own research and personal illustrations to supplement the teaching.  What a great privilege it is for me to serve with these men and listen to their insight that God is teaching them as they prepare to teach others.  It is a thrill to serve our God Who is always working His sovereign plan.
