Doris Aseltine
November 3, 1920 - November 25, 2007

Born November 3, 1920 in Okemos, Michigan, Doris Aseltine (Powell) went to be with her Saviour on November 25, 2007.  She was preceded in death by her husband John Aseltine. 

After graduation from high school, Doris enrolled in Moody Bible Institute.  There she met John Aseltine and they were married.  After graduating they moved to the Ozarks and began working in home missions.  Most of their meetings were held in country school houses.  They saw God’s hand of provision there and this time prepared them for a lifetime of ministry.  They left this work because of John’s health and moved to Michigan where Strickland Baptist Church in Shepherd, Michigan, called them to the pastorate.  While attending a missions conference, God spoke to them individually about missionary service to Africa. 
 
John and Doris Aseltine joined EBM December 21, 1948.  In January 1950 the Aseltines with their 3 daughters, sailed for Algeria, North Africa, where they pioneered a new field for EBM.  Two more children were born there.  During their time in this country, Algerians rebelled against the government of France and gained its independence.  After independence in 1962, the work became increasingly difficult and in 1970, along with many missionaries, they were expelled from the country by the leftist government.  They then went to southern France where they began a church planting ministry.  They started a church in Toulon which is now completely independent and pastored by their son-in law, Gerard Perez.  They then went to Draguignan, about 50 miles from Toulon and began another church.
