GOD IS GOOD - NO MATTER WHAT!

ahollins.jpgFinally the day has come to arrive on the mission field—your new home!

For months you prayed that God would move you through the process of applying with a mission agency, being appointed, and raising support to go to the ministry where you have sensed God moving you. The day finally arrives for you to say good-bye to all that is common and comfortable around you. Excitement and anxiety stretch your mind and emotions as you land in your new country.

In January, Amy Hollins, moved forward to settle into her appointed ministry in France. Although she experienced some stresses, she rejoices in the fact that God is so good—no matter what. Here are some of her reflections on those first few days:

Wow, we made it! We, being my parents and I - they came for a week to help my move and to have the chance to see my school and go to church in Châlons yesterday. It was SOOO good to have them come along... though yesterday was extremely difficult saying goodbye as they went to a hotel near the airport, and I came here to school.

God is so good - no matter what.

As I think of the many blessings, I am reminded that even if things didn't go as planned - He is still good! AND He is here - yes, even in France!

  • He was with us when we nearly missed our connection in Detroit running through the airport while our names were announced over the intercom.
  • He was with us when we arrived in Paris and all our bags made it!
  • He was with us when we walked for 15 minutes through an unfamiliar neighborhood, pulling A LOT of bags, in the rain.
  • He was with us when we made our trip to Châlons - a little walk, bus, train, metro, and another train!
  • He was with me when the Marshalls (missionaries) helped me set up my bank account, get my récépicéé look at cell phone options, cars, etc.
  • He was with us as we fellowshipped and worshiped together with the members of Eglise Evangelique Baptiste de Châlons.
  • He was with me last night when I got off a train and found that the bus I needed to take stopped running a few hours before.
  • He was with me when I freaked out a bit, prayed, found a taxi, prayed that the driver would understand where I needed to go and that it wouldn't be too expensive, and then arrived at school just 5-10 minutes later for just 6.40 euros.
  • He was with me tonight when I ate dinner with students from Switzerland , England, Scotland, Netherlands, Columbia... all communicating in French.
  • He is with me now as I write to you from my language school room, exhausted from my first day of orientation... all in French already!

It is in this painful stretching and bombardment of all things new and difficult that we grow, learn, and lean on His everlasting arms.
