HAPPY NEW YEAR - 2007
Each new year brings a fresh resolve to make this year the best. As Christians, we use this time to evaluate where we’ve been and where we are going in the time that God has given us. As we set goals, we are seeking to live our lives in a way that truly makes a difference.
Writing goals and resolutions are easy, but living them is not. Somehow the circumstances of life seem to kick all our good thoughts and plans out of our minds and we lose focus on what we seek to achieve. The only solution to this is firmly seeking God’s help in setting our plans and then trusting Him to enable us to see them accomplished for His glory in the year ahead.
Many times we are caught in “fearing to trust rather than fearfully trusting” our Maker.
Repeatedly in the Old Testament we read about the Israelites struggles of getting pulled off focus because of circumstances. It is easy in hindsight to become critical of the Israelites and how even in the midst of God's miraculous dealings on their behalf they lost sight and failed to trust God.
The beauty of the Scriptures is that they teach us that despite times of Israel’s “failure” in staying on task for their good and God’s glory, there are also times when Israel did stay focused and did make a difference in spite of the difficulties and circumstance around them.
This month, let’s encourage each other to set goals that will make a difference in 2007 for us, our families, and ultimately for God’s glory. By God’s grace, let us resolve to Fearfully Trust God to help us keep our resolutions this year.
